AGL moves forward with potentially largest wind farm yet in Australia

More than a year after securing site approval for the 450 MW Macarthur wind farm near Port Fairy in south-west Victoria, the project's owner, Australia Gas Light (AGL), has signed an agreement with New Zealand's Meridian Energy to take the A$600 million project forward. The news comes just months after AGL scrapped plans for its 79.2 MW Dollar wind farm in South Gippsland, Victoria (Windpower Monthly, September 2007). "The Macarthur wind farm will potentially be the largest wind development in Australia," says AGL's Michael Fraser. "The heads of agreement with Meridian Energy will bring together the key skills of both parties to determine the most favourable final generating capacity of the project." A site permit was obtained in October 2006.
