Reninvest announces plans for largest wind station in Switzerland

Ending a long period of inactivity in the Swiss wind market, local renewables developer Reninvest has announced plans for what would be the largest wind station in the country. It is applying for permits for eight Enercon 2 MW turbines for a site at 2000 metres in Airolo, making it the highest wind plant in Europe. The cost is pitched at about CHF 48 million (EUR 29.1 million). The development company, Parco Eloico San Gottardo, is a joint venture of Reninvest and Ticino Electric Company. The project is an integral part of a town plan to be presented to the local authority together with a preliminary environmental impact study, says Reninvest. Assuming the project is authorised, construction is planned in two phases. Access roads, grid connection and foundations will be built this summer with turbines to follow in 2009, with full operation by October.
