Japan's New Energy Development Organisation has granted ´10 billion for research into the potential for an offshore wind farm near the town of Setana in Hiyama. The wind turbines would be built on a breakwater that is under construction 700 metres offshore at Setana port. The research will focus on the profitability of such a project and the most suitable size of turbine. If the project is deemed feasible, construction will start next year.
