A strategic policy framework called "New Era -- New Energy," focused on boosting activity in Australia's renewable energy industry, has been announced by the federal government. "This action agenda will improve the industry's capacity to deliver jobs, exports and economic diversification for regional areas," says industry minister Nick Minchin. The policy, formulated by energy industry representatives, government officials and academics, outlines a package designed to "achieve a sustainable and internationally competitive renewable energy industry which has annual sales of A$4 billion by 2010." The document identifies actions, initiatives, strategies and implementation responsibilities for all forms of renewable energy.
