Industry lobbies for wind power at 2004 Athens Olympics

Athens will need an extra 60 to 80 GWh of electricity to power the Olympic games when it hosts the event in 2004, according to figures from the Greek Energy Regulatory Authority (RAE). The Greek wind energy association is leading a lobby to show the extra power can be supplied with 300 MW of wind capacity, according to the organisation's Ioannis Tsipouridis. "It is known that the 2004 Olympic Committee is toying with the idea," he says.
