Vestas taken to court

Denmark's health and safety executive has asked the police to start proceedings against Vestas in connection with a fatal accident on November 6 when a technician was killed during the dismantling of a wind turbine at Lemvig (Windpower Monthly, December 1997). The executive reports that there are grounds to believe that Ivan Sørensen, 38, was not properly instructed in the correct procedure for the work involved. He died when the nacelle of the turbine, to which he was attached by a safety line, toppled from the tower as the blades were being removed from it. Sørensen had worked for Vestas for nine years in Denmark and abroad.
