The Costa Rica institute of electricity, the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad, has granted development of a 20 MW plant in Tejona to the Dutch multi-utility NV Edon Groep. The agreement also grants all operation and maintenance services to the group for five years. The plant will consist of 30 Vestas 47, 660 kW turbines. Twenty-two units will be leased, with a purchase option during the five years. The remaining eight units, together with all other vital equipment, such as transformers, high-tension cables, control and monitoring systems, and fibre optic cables will be bought directly.
