Opportunities for wind power development in Sri Lanka were highlighted at a recent workshop, "Danish Days in Sri Lanka," organised by the Danish embassy in collaboration with the EU Chamber of Commerce in Colombo. "With the acute power shortage and peace process recently concluded, the country is in development mode," noted trade counsellor Vinay Capila. Assessments of Sri Lanka's wind resource indicate that the southern region has the potential for 200 MW of wind power generation. Sarvesh Kumar of RRB Vestas said the workshop had created awareness about Danish technology and "we shall soon be looking at some projects in Sri Lanka." A donors conference will be held in June in Colombo.
