TURNOVER REACHING INR 6 BILLION

Wind farms for 57 sites in India are currently in the pipeline, according to Minister S Krishna Kumar, spurred into development by the soft loans and tax incentives available to all Indian companies diversifying into wind power. The government support of these projects "will help India become a manufacturing base to supply the market in Asia," says Krishna Kumar. He anticipates total wind industry turnover reaching INR 6 billion this year. At Muppandal alone, in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, a total wind capacity of 86 MW is now running, "representing the largest installation of wind turbines at a single location in the Asia and Pacific region," he says.
