American renewables developer, New World Power Corp, is negotiating with German wind turbine manufacturer, Enercon, regarding an exclusive purchase arrangement of the Enercon direct drive train wind turbine in the Western hemisphere, according to New World. The US firm has also negotiated directly with both Enercon and the giant Westinghouse company so that Westinghouse would manufacture portions of Enercon's turbine. New World forged an alliance this summer with Westinghouse Electric Corp to develop, market, construct, operate and own renewable energy systems including wind (Windpower Monthly, August 1994). New World is confident an agreement can be reached in the "near future." It says the Enercon turbine is "far superior to any other," but it will not become wedded to any one particular wind technology.
