DIY wind turbines

DIY wind turbines could become a feature of the British landscape if many wind energy enthusiasts follow the advice of Hugh Piggott in his new book Windpower Workshop -- available from the Centre for Alternative Technology Publications. The book describes how to design and build your own wind turbine and includes advice on how to carve a set of rotor blades and fabricate a tower from steel pipe. It also advises visiting a scrap yard to look for bargain price materials. However, Piggott, who runs his own wind power business from his home on the Scoraig peninsula in Scotland, warns the reader that although building your own wind turbine saves most of the cost, you use up a great deal of your valuable time.
