Wind potential near hydro mapped in Norbotten

A survey of the wind energy potential of Norrbotten in the far north of Sweden has been commissioned by the regional administrating authority, the Länsstyrelsen. Several potential wind power developers have published preliminary plans to build large wind farms next to hydropower dams in the area and permission has been sought for installation of 28 turbines on an island in the northern part of the Baltic. The Länsstyrelsen is preparing a regional wind power plan in order to direct development to the most suitable areas.
