Less gossip

Expressing disappointment at the almost total absence of technical articles in Windpower Monthly and interest in a yearly comparison of new wind turbines would have. The Editor: Windpower Monthly is a news magazine not a technical journal, although a new column of technical briefs is being prepared for regular publication.

From Sven Ruin, Stockholm, Sweden.

Thank you for an interesting and attractive magazine. However, I am disappointed by the almost total absence of technical articles. Please write more on technology and report less gossip. Reporting and comparing technology would not only improve Windpower Monthly, I believe it could also play a role in improving the technology. For example, making a comparison in your magazine of control and management systems would almost certainly lead to improvements in these computer programmes, which are sometimes difficult to use and many years behind their time. And imagine what an impact a yearly comparison of new wind turbines would have!

Windpower Monthly is a news magazine and not a technical journal. However, once the wind business, and thus our market, grows large enough to support the kind of product testing suggested, it is an area of consumer journalism we could consider. Meantime a new column of technical briefs of broad interest is being prepared for regular publication. Lyn Harrison, Editor
