The first German-Russian renewables energy conference took place at the end of October in Germany, hosted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems and financed by Germany's federal research ministry. The aim of the conference was, "To intensify joint research work and encourage co-operation between Russian and German companies in the field of renewable energies." A project of Husumer Schiffswerft wind turbines at Saratov in Volga, supported through the German research ministry's Eldorado programme, was taken as an example of what could be achieved. This project comprises ten 30 kW machines delivered over past weeks. The economic situation in Russia, however, still seriously hampers any significant projects which do not have the benefit of state aid.
