Public hearings were under way in late July in the Tehachapi area to address if the US Bureau of Land Management should allow wind developers to build new wind power plants on 66,000 acres of public BLM land. Wind companies wish to lease 24,000 acres of the land. The BLM is to prepare an environmental impact statement on issues of concern to the public.
