Approval for turbines at Hundhammerfjellet

The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate has approved an application by energy supplier Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk (NTE) to develop a wind farm of either 15, 3 MW turbines or 17, 2 MW units on Hundhammerfjellet, Abelvær on the island of Nærøy, Nord-Trøndelag. Conditions at the site are described as good, with an average wind speed of 8.9 m/s. One 1.65 MW turbine is already operating at the site and construction of another of 3 MW has previously been approved. Both will remain "as an integrated part of the wind farm," which will be connected to an existing 66 kV grid via an underground cable. NTE and its partner ScanWind hope to complete the project by the end of 2004.
