The share issue in Britain's largest community owned wind project has closed with people subscribing for over £4 million, in excess of the target £3.75 million needed to buy all five wind turbines in the 6.5 MW Oxfordshire Wind Farm being developed by Westmill Wind Farm Co-operative. "I am delighted that the share offer has been such a huge success and reached beyond our expectations," says Harvey Tordoff, chairman of the co-operative. Because the offer was oversubscribed, some of the applications will have to be scaled back. But priority goes to people living within 50 miles of the project. With the turnkey contractor now in place, the co-operative is now comparing prices for the turbine supply. Construction is due to begin this summer.
