Wind turbines have been ordered for a 17 MW wind farm in Navarra province in northern Spain from Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas. The project is to be made up of 34, Vestas 500 kW units built by Navarra company Gamesa E—lica SA. Vestas owns 40% of the Spanish company and will supply DKK 60 million of components for the project. The wind farm is to be sited near the town of Pamplona and is the second phase of a 107 MW agreement between Gamesa E—lica SA. and the local electricity company, Energ’a Hidroélectr’ca de Navarra (EHN). The entire wind power station, scheduled for completion in 2000, is part of an ambitious plan by EHN and the regional government to meet 45% of Navarra's electricity demand with 600 MW of wind power by 2010 (Windpower Monthly, May 1995).
