The Spanish wind industry is estimating that its end 1999 figure for the country's wind power capacity is around 1500 MW, though official Spanish wind statistics for the whole year have yet to appear. The national electricity regulatory body, the Comision Nacional del Sistema Electrico (CNSE), reports a half yearly total of 1193 MW, up from 761 MW at the start of 1999. In a rough calculation of installed capacity and production, it estimates an average capacity factor in Spain of 30%. The CNSE figures confirm a 122% growth in wind production in Spain compared to the same period in 1998. This makes wind the main contributor to an overall growth in renewables production of 15% in Spain.
