The eighth prototype of Enercon's 6 MW turbine is being installed at an inland site in the east German state of Saxony Anhalt, operated by Windpark-Druiberg, which says the other seven prototypes are all turning at coastal sites. The latest one joins 28 Enercon 2 MW machines at the Druiberg wind station in Halberstad. The station, which may be expanded to 80-100 MW, is privately financed by the local operator company and investors, who are exclusively from neighbouring parishes. Total investment is about EUR 80 million. The Enercon 6 MW turbine is priced at about EUR 10 million, according to Windpark-Druiberg. With a hub height of 123 metres, it is expected to generate around 12 million kWh a year.
