COMPANIES MERGE

FloWind Corp of San Rafael, California, has purchased a majority interest in Advanced Wind Turbines Inc (AWT). R Lynette & Associates, the engineering and product development wing of AWT, has also been acquired by FloWind. FloWind is now the only US company offering both horizontal axis and vertical axis turbines.

Advanced Wind Turbines Inc (AWT) is now mostly owned by FloWind Corp of San Rafael, California. The purchase of the majority interest in the manufacturer of the AWT-26 wind turbine was announced last month. Meantime, an order for 222 AWT turbines from Renewable Energy Systems Ltd of India, a partner of FloWind, brings sales of the AWT to more than 300. FloWind is to develop wind plants with RES and in the US, permitting is under way for 25 MW of AWT-26 units to be installed in the Columbia Hills of Washington state. The company is planning to reach a production level of 600 turbines a year for 1996, with commercial production starting sometime this year. R Lynette & Associates, the engineering and product development wing of AWT, has also been acquired by FloWind, but will remain in Redmond, Washington. FloWind is now the only US company offering both horizontal axis and vertical axis turbines. With the acquisition, Bob Lynette is now marketing vice president at FloWind and still president of AWT.
