Eighth wind project complete in Northern Ireland

The first phase of Northern Ireland's eighth wind project was expected to be completed by the end of 1999. Nine 660 kW Vestas wind turbines were due to be installed last month at Lendrum's Bridge, near Fivemiletown in County Tyrone by joint developers B9 of Northern Ireland and Renewable Energy Systems (RES) of England. Output from eight of the machines is contracted under the government's Northern Ireland Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation system of subsidies. The ninth turbine is to supply Northern Ireland Electricity with green power for its EcoEnergy program under which it sells clean power at higher tariff. B9 and RES have planning consent for a total 20 turbines on the site.
