A political whirlwind was building around renewable energy as this issue of Windpower Monthly went to press. Facts and figures on climate change and greenhouse gas emissions were pouring into the global warming arena as world leaders and energy lobbyists boarded planes headed for Kyoto and the United Nations summit. At the same time, the European Commission released its White Paper on renewables, swiftly followed by a Greenpeace action lauding the virtues of wind power, especially offshore. No wonder that oil giant Shell chose the last week of November to join the European Wind Energy Association.
