Working together in Italy

Regarding "Chutzpah and wile cut through red tape" (Windpower Monthly, December 1997). The author applauds the advancement of wind in new regions where business partnerships and new technology make noteworthy stories.

Thank you for the article about the success of IVPC and Tomen in Italy ( "Chutzpah and wile cut through red tape," December 1997). Second Wind has been involved in this project from the beginning, and we are pleased to credit the hard work and resulting quality.

IVPC has worked with Second Wind as a test partner on the refinement of the Second Wind Advanced Distributed Monitoring System. The innovations of the ADMS system allow the IVPC operators to see turbine conditions up to the minute and find troubles 25 kilometres away. Wind farm productivity gains show in the management database. IVPC has customised the system, making it a valuable operational and management tool.

IVPC and Second Wind work together, helping each firm make improvements to their respective projects. This happy result was assisted by the US Department of Energy's NREL Advanced Wind Turbine Innovative Subsystems Program. The ADMS advantages in data collection and management are now being implemented by NREL in the Turbine Verification Program, Phase III.

We applaud the advancement of wind in new regions where business partnerships and new technology make noteworthy stories. Keep up the good work, everyone.
