Directive on wind proposed

A suggestion for a draft Directive on wind energy for the European Union has been put forward by Rolf Linkohr, a Member of the European Parliament. The draft puts forward policy requiring all operators of the European electricity grid to pay a fixed price for electricity generated from renewables sources. Secondly it suggests a European investment fund for raising money privately for developing renewables. Thirdly, it suggests a system whereby payment for renewables electricity is spread throughout European utilities and does not fall only on the shoulders of utilities in regions where the renewable resource is found. Linkohr's intention is for such a Directive to primarily be aimed at supporting technologies on the threshold of entering the market. Whether or not his ideas are taken further by the European Commission remains to be seen
