Anglo/German company granted supply licence

Anglo/German company WRE Ltd was granted a second tier licence for the supply of electricity by the electricity regulatory office OFFER on January 21. It will begin supplying renewables generated electricity to mainly household and the corporate market customers in the course of 1999. Various market products are being road tested by a market research company and the results will not be available for several weeks. But research already available shows there is an appetite for premium power products, says Juliet Davenport, director of WRE Ltd -- a joint venture between German wind developer Wasserkraft und Regenerative Energieentwicklung and Britain's Energy for Sustainable Development Ltd (ESD), based in Wiltshire. On the supply side, contracts are being finalised for electricity from renewable energy sources, Davenport adds.
