In a report on the market potential in Denmark for replacing old wind turbines with newer, larger and more effective models, BTM Consult estimates that over 2000 machines -- corresponding to a 300 MW increase in capacity -- could be replaced by the end of the century if there was incentive to do so. The report stresses that installed capacity could be increased by 280 MW without any increase in the number of wind turbines in the landscape. The more than 2000 turbines earmarked for replacement are all under 130 kW and installed between 1980-86, making them between eight and 14 years old today.
