A policy for Europe

The long awaited and much sought after European Directive on renewables has been shelved, temporarily at least. Infighting in the renewables lobby, it seems, had much to do with its demise, as our interviews with some of the leading players reveal. We also look once more at the pros and cons of the two sides of the policy debate -- and suggest important ways of improving the ditched proposal. All future discussion should also take into account wind energy's increasing economic strength, carefully analysed here in a comparison of its price with that of competing thermal technologies.
