Belgian utility Electrabel has announced construction of a 12 MW wind farm at Bolder Biert in east Belgium to be online in early 2007 -- five years after development started. The project is to be made up of six, 2 MW turbines and will produce 23 million kWh a year, enough power for 6500 households. The Belgian energy firm says the EUR 14 million investment "confirms Electrabel's ambition to develop diversified power generation, including renewables-based facilities." Currently, 15% of Electrabel's generation capacity in Europe is based on renewable energy and almost half of the electricity produced is CO2-free, it says. The company has wind power interests in Portugal, France and Italy.
