Construction has started on the EUR 57 million, 42 MW Vratarusa wind farm in Croatia. The project is being developed by Germany's Wallenborn-Projektentwicklung in partnership with Croatian company Valalte, until now only active in the tourism sector. Comprising 14 Vestas 3 MW turbines, the plant is located in the district of Lika-Senj. It will be connected to the power grid via a long distance 30 kV power line and a step up transformer station to link it into the 110 kV grid, all of which is being built in cooperation with Croatian power company Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP). The project partners are also hoping to build an 80 MW project at Cicarija and are measuring wind strength on other locations in Croatia, says project director Davorin Flego.
