California wind wholesaler exits market

Foresight Energy Company, which once provided wholesale green energy in California, has completed its exit from that business. The small company, based in Oakland and now offering consulting in green electricity, had most recently been acting as the green power agent for Enron Capital and Trade, Enron Corp's wholesale power marketing business. Prior to that, when California launched its deregulated electricity market in April 1998, Foresight said it would sell its own brand of electricity, Eco-Power, directly to users in both California and several states in New England. Company president Warren Byrne notes that activity in the California electricity market has been slower than had been expected, both because of start-up problems and a system that does not encourage competition. The green market, he says, is more active, but that is mainly because subsidies are available. Foresight's previous president, Eric Miller, formerly of Kenetech, has now left the company.
