German chancellor Angela Merkel and Indian premier Manmohan Singh signed an agreement to strengthen co-operation between the two countries at the Hanover industry Trade Fair in April. Issuing a joint statement, they announced the establishment of an Indo-Germany Energy Forum comprising senior officials and representatives from the private sector. The forum will address "strategic energy concerns", which include promotion of renewable energy sources and environmentally friendly technologies, energy security, and efficient use of energy, while taking into account the environmental challenges of sustainable development. This year India was a Hanover trade fair partner.
