27 MW in Oaxaca, Conference Digest

A solicitation will be issued this year by Mexico's Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) sometime for 27 MW in Oaxaca, said CFE's Roberto Cadenas at Windpower '96. The province, in central south Mexico, is known for the windy La Venta sites, where a CFE pilot project of seven Vestas V27s was installed on a turn-key basis in 1994 by New World Entec, New World's Mexico operation. The 27-MW La Venta II will replace a fossil fuel combustion-steam plant and must generate power for no more than $0.04/kWh. "CFE's experience with the pilot plant has been convincing, very convincing I think," he said.
