Suzlon and Vestas build new blade plant and turbine facility

India is to get a new blade manufacturing plant and a new wind turbine making facility, courtesy of Suzlon Energy and Vestas RRB India. Suzlon's new blade facility will be in Pondicherry, south India, and is expected to be operational by December. The Vestas RRB factory, which will turn out either 500 kW or 2 MW turbines, is planned to be online by 2005. A decision regarding which model will be produced is expected next month, while the planned location for the plant, Tamil Nadu, is under review. "If Tamil Nadu continues to impose sales tax, we will have to shift our facility to Pondicherry," says the company's Sarvesh Kumar.
