Offshore specialist enters wind

AMEC, an international oil and gas group, has acquired British firm Border Wind. AMEC Border Wind will be part of the group's Offshore Services business. "AMEC's move is a direct response to the government's recently announced commitment to developing wind energy projects both on land and offshore," says Neil Bruce from AMEC Offshore Services, which he says welcomes the diversification. The new venture will combine Border Wind's wind farm development experience with AMEC's facilities to provide a range of services, from front end design through to operations and maintenance, both onshore and offshore, comments David Still, previously with Border Wind and now general manager for AMEC Border Wind.

"We have been working together over the past six years and, by becoming part of AMEC, we are now in a much stronger position to maximise opportunities in the expanding renewable energy market," he says.
