Spanish wind power firm Gamesa has inaugurated the EUR 90 million, 80 MW Terras Altas de Fafe wind farm, Portugal's largest to date. Located about 70 kilometres north-east of Oporto in the municipalities of Fafe and Celorico de Basto, it comprises 40 Gamesa 2 MW turbines and is expected to generate 180 GWh of electricity a year. The project was originally developed by Belgian company Electrabel, but sold to Gamesa in 2005 as part of a framework agreement, signed in 2002, involving the sale of 214 MW of Portuguese wind energy assets.
