RESULTS SOON FROM THERMIE FIRST ROUND

The results of the first round of Thermie under the European Union's Fourth Framework Programme are expected in early November when letters inviting successful applicants to enter into contract negotiations with the European Commission (EC) should be mailed. Thermie, which supports demonstration projects, is part of the European Union's Non Nuclear Energy Programme under the Fourth Framework Programme for research. The other part of the programme is Joule. Thermie first round results were expected before the summer recess, but Commission procedure has taken longer than expected. The delay, assures a Thermie official, has nothing to do with the problems surrounding Joule, the EC's energy research and demonstration programme (see page 20-21).
