Hare Hill wind planning consent

Plans for two wind turbines, each rated at up to 2 MW, have sailed through the consenting process in County Durham. AMEC Borderwind's application for Hare Hill, near Ludworth, was approved unanimously by Durham City Council in mid May following its planning officer's recommendation for acceptance. Bill Grainger of AMEC Borderwind says it was passed with relatively little debate. "Durham County and Durham City Councils are both very conscious of Local Agenda 21 and have a good outlook on balancing national needs with local issues. But on another site it could take a few years," he says, of the UK's "think globally, act locally"policy. Hare Hill is AMEC Borderwind's third permitted wind cluster in Durham. It hopes to build its two projects at Holmside Hall and Hedley Hope this year and start Hare Hill next.
