EFL ALLOWED BY EU

A claim by giant utility Preussenelektra that the Electricity Feed Law (EFL) could contravene European Union (EU) law has been exposed as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. The association for inland wind energy, IWB, is calling the claim a misrepresentation of the facts. Preussenelektra was reported in the German press in February as claiming that the EU Commission (EC) was considering overturning the EFL, which enables a protected market for wind power by obliging utilities to buy electricity from renewables sources at premium rates. But the German federal economy ministry assures IWB that the EC has expressly allowed national legislation -- like the EFL -- for the promotion of renewable energies.
