Repairing the 4 MW Eole vertical axis wind turbine

Project Eole is investigating the possibility of repairing the 4 MW Eole vertical axis wind turbine at Cap Chat which it acquired in 1992. The machine was shut down in April 1993 due to a bearing problem. Between 1988 and 1993, the turbine generated 12,000 MWh with an availability of 94%. One of the world's largest wind turbines, Eole cost about $40 million. Repairs could also prove costly.
