Rio Energy awards 117MW deal to Acciona

BRAZIL: Acciona has won a 117MW deal for 39 AW3000-116 turbines to go to a project cluster in Brazil.

The Itarema 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 projects are located in located in the state of Ceará. According to Acciona the wind farms will come online by July this year.

According to Windpower Intelligence, Rio Energy is the sole developer of the 240MW Itarema cluster. The projects are part of the A-3 auction in 2013.

Speaking about the deal, Acciona said the turbines will come in a mixture of 116-metre (medium wind speed) and 125-metre (low wind) sizes.

Acciona said it had sold 861MW of the AW3000 in Brazil, around 41% of its total orders.
