The US manufacturer will supply 33 of its 2.85-100 turbines for the Dunmaglass wind farm, near Inverness, which is being developed by SSE Renewables.

The 2.85MW turbines will be installed on specially designed 70-metre towers so as to meet height restrictions that stipulate a maximum tip height of 120 metres.

SSE acquired the Dunmaglass wind farm from Renewable Energy Systems Group in May 2013. GE did not provide a timeline for the turbine installation, but the project is due to come online in 2016, according to Windpower Intelligence.

SSE has around 3.3GW of renewable energy capacity in the UK. It operates 139 GE wind turbines, with a further 43 due to be commissioned by the end of 2015.
