Alstom to supply 97MW Brazil project

BRAZIL: Alstom has been handed the contract by Tractebel Energia to supply ECO 122 turbines for the 97.2MW Trairí II project.

The French manufacturer will deliver 36 of the 2.7MW turbines to the site in Ceará state, north-east Brazil.

Under the deal, Alstom will proved ten years of operations and management at the project, due to be commissioned in 2016.

The EUR 120 million contract will also see Alstom use 119-metre towers for the first time, the company said. The towers have been specifically designed for use with the ECO 122 turbine, which has a 122-metre diametre rotor blade.

The company introduced the new 119-metre concrete tower for the ECO 122 at the EWEA conference in Barcelona in March. Developed with French civil-engineering specialist Freyssinet, the design comprises 11 concrete sections and has a 7.2-metre base diameter.

A novel installation method using bridge-building techniques allows new sections to be added at the bottom rather than on top. Three sections plus the nacelle are installed on site first and then, using an Eolift, they are lifted, allowing up to eight further sections to be installed underneath.

Manufacturing of the nacelles will take place at Alstom's plant in Bahia, in order to meet local content sourcing regulations.

Developer Tractebel selected Siemens SWT-101-2.3MW turbines for the Trairí I wind project in 2011.
