Windpower TV - South African Wind Association CEO Johan van den Burg

SOUTH AFRICA: South Africa's wind industry has reached a turning point according to South African Wind Association CEO Johan van den Burg.

Speaking to Windpower TV at EWEA 2014 in Barcelona, Van den Burg forecast around 650MW would be installed in the next 3-5 months.

Questioned whether South Africa's large coal sector could prove a hindrance to the development of renewables, he said wind was 30% cheaper than new coal generation.

He also spoke about grid issues and why he believes the industry is working around any congestion issues.
