Repower brand is finally dropped

GERMANY: Repower has officially rebranded itself as Senvion, following the conclusion of a licensing deal with Swiss Utility Ratia Energie.

Senvion has also revealed its new logo, which features a green colour-scheme that is similar to the logo of parent company Suzlon. Explaining the colours, Senvion said it represented sustainability.

The company has been working on changing its name since at least 2010. In 2001 it acquired a license to use the name from Swiss utilty Rätia Energie. This worked well enough until May 2010, when Ratia decided it wanted exclusive use of the name.

Since then an extension agreement between Repower (Swiss utility) and Repower (wind turbine OEM) has been renewed no fewer than three times, with the current deal set to expire in March.

At the time of the announcement of the new branding, Senvion CEO Andreas Nauen explained: "We needed to find a new name. We changed it for something that reflected the brand and what we do well. Sustainable energy, vision, innovation. That's how we came up with [Senvion]".

Speaking about the new logo, Nauen said the 'I' in the logo had been changed to a "1", in order to "emphasise that [Senvion's] customers and business partners came first".
