Acciona low-wind turbine certified

SPAIN: GL Renewables has granted new certificates for three different models of Acciona's AW 3000 turbine.

Several different variants of the 3MW machine have now been certified, including the AW 125/3000, which features a larger 125-metre rotor, and is designed for low-wind sites.

The turbine will be installed on a 120-metre concrete tower to make the most of higher wind speeds at greater altitudes, and is compliant with grids of 50 and 60Hz.

Acciona announced the release of the new low-wind version in February when it said it planned to install a prototype before the end of the year.

GL has also certified another two variations of the AW 116/3000 turbine, both with the 116-metre rotor.

The models are different from the standard AW 116/3000 in that they feature either a 120-metre concrete tower or a 92-metre tubular steel tower.

Both have 56.7-metre blades in versions for frequencies of 50 and 60Hz, and for operations in normal or cold climate conditions.
