The Broken Bow 2 project will feature 43 of GE's 1.7-100 turbines, an optimised version of the company's 1.6-100 model.

The project was sold by Edison Mission Energy, which had intended to break ground by June, but it was put on hold when the developer filed for bankruptcy last December.

All consenting hurdles have been cleared for the development, and the wind farm is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2014.

The entire power output from the wind farm has been sold to the Nebraska Public Power District under a 25-year contract. Sempra did not reveal the terms of the deal.
