Expected for commissioning in 2014, the Gok ll project will use GE’s 2.75-103 wind turbines. It is the third Gama-GE project in Turkey, bringing the venture’s total wind portfolio in that country to 67.5MW.

"GE’s 2.75-103 wind turbines are the right machines for medium- to high-wind conditions," said Gama Enerji CEO Arif Ozozan.

"The 13 units’ power curve will allow Kok ll to capture the most wind and provide much-needed additional electricity for Turkey," he added.

Turkey is a largely untapped source in terms of wind energy. It has approximately 2.5GW of installed generating capacity, but its total potential is rated at 48GW.

A recent report by the country’s energy market regulatory authority revealed that its annual demand for electricity is growing by 5.68%, against an EU average of just 1.6%.
