Repower closes Danish offices

DENMARK: Repower has closed its research and development offices in Denmark as it seeks to reduce both its global workforce and operational costs.

Repower said the closure of its offices in Aarhus were part of a global programme to adjust "site structure as well as our logistics and our number of personnel". In April, the company announced it was to cut around 750 jobs globally and reduce costs by EUR100 million by the end of the 2013-14 financial year.

The Danish office was believed to employ around 30 staff.

In a statement, Repower said: "The wind industry is experiencing a considerable weakening of market dynamics — particularly in the offshore segment. An uncertain energy policy framework further reinforces this development.

"With our future programme we have set up a package of profound measures to streamline our organisation and by this means remain competitive and secure future growth opportunities even in times of uncertain and volatile market phases.

"In the course of the re-organisation, we will be adjusting our site structure as well as our logistics and our number of personnel. Part of that is the closure of our Denmark branch."

The closure comes after Repower's longstanding chief technology officer, and driving forced behind its current range, Matthias Schubert announced he was leaving the company at the end of March.

Additionally, the Suzlon-owned company has said it has no plans to develop another offshore turbine in the immediate future. Instead, it plans to rely on its 6M machine until the end of the decade.
