Electricity Generating (Egco), Thailand's first independent power producer, today announced that it is buying the Boco Rock development. Egco is contributing AUS $110 million in equity, with the remainder coming from loans by a consortium of banks.

The total project is valued at AUS $350 million and, when completed, will consist of up to 121 turbines. Construction will start late this year, with power delivery scheduled to begin in February 2015.

The Downer-GE consortium will be responsible for the full engineering, procurement and construction for stage one of the project, including the construction of the transmission line and substation. GE will supply and commission 58 1.7-100 and nine 1.6-100 turbines.

This represents the first major order for the GE 1.7MW turbine, which was launched in May and is based on the 1.6MW platform. The 1.7-100 is claimed to generate 6% more energy compared with the 1.6-100, both assuming 7.5m/s average wind speeds.
